All students enrolled in level based classes must master the skills required in each level before advancement.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of dance. Students who do not study ballet have a more difficult time building a solid technical base, proper alignment and core strength in other styles.
Students registered in Ballet II and higher are required to take at least two ballet classes a week.

Pointe

Although age is not necessarily a prerequisite, many ballet students do not begin to dance en pointe earlier than approximately 12 years of age. Another key determining factor is strength in the legs, feet, ankles, and core.
Ballet students are generally ready to begin pointe work after achieving competency in fundamental ballet technique and have been dancing for a number of years. Students registered in Ballet III or higher may be invited to study Pointe (upon teacher recommendation only).

Jazz

Jazz incorporates a broad range of dance styles and techniques that have evolved over the years.
A low center of gravity and high level of energy are important identifying characteristics of this style of dance.
Other elements of jazz dance are less common and are the stylizations of their respective choreographers.

Contemporary

Contemporary combines techniques developed through a variety of styles including ballet, lyrical, jazz and modern.
Enrollment in ballet is required for all Contemporary classes.

Tap is making music with your body through rhythm and sound. Explore the heartbeat of dance through the use of syncopation, rhythm and improvisation.
Taught by a world renowned tap dancer who has performed at the Kennedy Center on multiple occasions this class is an opportunity not to be missed!

Modern is a style of dance that focuses on creating movement, exploring spacial awareness, energy, gravity, musicality and rhythm--a total mind, body and spirit connection.
This class will learn variations of Cunningham, Horton and Release techniques.
Highly experimental in origin, this class will test your boundaries as a dancer both technically and artistically.

For our youngest dancers, our introductory combo classes provide a fun exploration of self-expression while learning developmentally appropriate technique and choreography.
Choose from Ballet/Jazz , Ballet/Tap or Jazz/Hip Hop.
Combo Classes
Acro

Acrobatics or “Acro” includes contortion (flexibility) and gymnastic tumbling skills or “passes”, partnering, and hand balancing, It develops the strength and flexibility needed for the execution of skills such as cartwheels, walk-overs, back-hand-springs, and aerials.
Because acrobatic skills are becoming increasingly incorporated into every form of dance, even ballet, all performers should posses acrobatic skills.

For the student who loves to perform, our performance company classes focus on polishing your technical and artistic abilities while creating an atmosphere of teamwork.
All Thrive Company members are eligible to do solos at competitions as well as team dances. Placement is by audition only.
